How to Get the Best From Your Explore Orkney Holiday Trips

Please Ask Questions

If you have an inquisitive mind, please do not be shy about asking questions whilst on your tour. If we do not know the answer, we will find it.

Come prepared

The Pict' s and the Vikings survived the magical changeability of variable weather conditions, so do we. We build itinerary options to provide the best opportunities if adverse weather conditions strike. So for our customers benefit, we have to reserve the right to change itineraries if circumstances dictate. Nevertheless, to take full advantage of the wonders of Orkney, it may be wise to bring weatherproof footwear and shower proof clothing in the event that rain occurs.

Itinerary changes

We are committed to a policy of continuous improvement and have a record of introducing beneficial changes to our itineraries. These changes are published in the news section of our website and newsletters.

Itineraries are designed with some fall-back options which can be invoked in the event of severe weather conditions or other unforeseen events.

To smoke or not to smoke . . .

For the comfort of fellow explorers, sites of interest and our vehicles have to remain smoke free; there are opportunities for an open-air break en-route.

Access

Assistance Dogs and Hearing Dogs are welcome without any additional charge. Please discuss this requirement before booking with regard to the suitability of certain places of interest.

Aurora Borealis

Free Alert Service

The Northern Lights are unpredictable, occurring usually in the mid-winter months and more often than not late evening or after midnight. When the show is on, it is a spectacular sight. Explore Orkney offer their holiday customers a free Aurora Borealis Alert Service by text message. It is worth getting up for.

Puffins Nest 2008

Last summer, some lucky Explore Orkney holiday visitors experienced the joy of seeing a new puffin family on exposed sea-front rocks in South Ronaldsay.
